I am a 17y.o. male, 135lbs, looking to gain weight. I am starting a new exercise program, and since my parents recently switched diets, there is never a good amount of food in the house. I am planning to go buy a new bunch of food, but I was just wondering what kinds are good for constant snacking and high protein, weight gain.

Best bet is to talk to your doctor or a nutritionist to help you plan a program to gain weight.

That being said . . .

Be sure you are snacking on healthy foods instead of junk which is empty calories and low in nutritious value.

Cheese and crackers, or peanut butter crackers - high in protein and satisfy the need to crunch tend to be better than fried potato chips (or crisps - depending on where you are!)

Baked tortilla chips and salsa - make your own nachos! - line a cookie sheet with tinfoil. Cover it with chips and grated cheeses. Broil it for several minutes until the cheese is melted. Remove from oven and top with whatever you like - salsa, sour cream, etc.

Whole grain breads make great tasting healthy sandwiches - meats (if you’re not a vegetarian), cheeses, peanut butter and jelly, whatever!

Smoothies or homemade milkshakes with fresh fruits and protein powders added. Loaded with vitamins and calcium and generally taste good!

Yogurt with granola / grape nuts / cereal of choice and fresh fruit. Tasty meal or snack.

Grilled meals - my dad bought a gas grill for Father’s Day and I cook on it more than he does!! Fish, Chicken, steaks, veggies . . . anything goes on the grill. Much healthier than fried alternatives!

You might want to check out the websites such as the American Heart Association. They tend to list HEALTHY diets. Good luck!!

You’ll want to add protein and quality carbs, not just calories. Look at one of the men’s magazines for information, such as Men’s Fitness or Muscle and Fitness. Tuna, chicken and egg whites are all quality protein, where vegetables, grains and beans are quality carbs. They won’t make you fat but will help you gain muscle if you’re lifting weights.

Hey, I’m 21 f recently lost 50lbs and my healthy recommendations are way yummy! Try snacking on healthy carbs and proteins. Special K bars/cereals are great(blueberry), actually any healthy cereal that has fiber, not cocoa puffs. Try bagging the cereal in small bags so you dont eat to much. Small Red Delicious apples, peanutbutter 100 cal snack packs, planters trailmix fruit and nut mix. Also you can consider Lean Cuisines as a snack, pick ones that are small in portion though and lean pockets, man I’m getting hungry! Honestly you can eat anything you want as long as you exercise and eat small portions. Eat one of these things an hour. one k bar, then apple, then bag o cereal, so your not constantly starving but munching One thing that i did was research was certain ingredients were and did for me such as fiber, sodium, and carbs. A guy that i work with told me to gain healthy weight drink ensure, i havent tried it yet, but slimfast protein shakes are way yum too! Any other questions or recommendations? I got tons

Low/no fat milk might be an option. They are high in nutrition and are abundant in protein

Pre-wrapped butter chips. Just dip them in a bowl of chocolate syrup.
