Overweight people and snack food commercials?

B asked:
Why is it that you never see overweight people selling snack/ junk food in commercials? I’m thin and I don’t have a problem with a person being overweight and I don’t discriminate. I have heavy friends. Who’s more likely to buy a soda, candy bar, or a bag of chips at the store? I’m not saying thin people don’t eat these things but full figured folks eat them too, we just never see them in the advertisements. What prompted this question. Is that while I was in the grocery store toady, there was a man behind me in line who was obese. He had a Party Size bag of Lay’s potato chips and a 2 liter Pepsi, which next to him looked like a snack size bag of chips and a 16oz soda.

maybe the product is ashamed of what they put out there
We live in a world where advertising dictates that their products are consumed by beautiful people. Majority of advertising agencies skate far over the line of reality…….and us consumers keep on buying!
well, people won’t by their products if they feel repulsed about the consequences
They advertise beverages, food, snacks ect. with thin people because they don’t want people to think their products are going to make you overweight, and they also don’t want to feed into the stereotypical fat people buy more snacks deal.
The snack food folks don’t want you to see what their products can cause. They want you to think they are fun to eat and won’t get you fat.
The people advertising these products don’t want you to know the truth that chips and soda are crap, and with continued, excessive use you will be big and fat. Chips and soda are empty calories, have no benefit, and make you fat. In the commercials they show young fit people running around drinking their crap and eating their fat laden garbage.
this is sad, but true. The advertisers have hot people shown using their products because 1.to make people think that they will be as cool as the people on the commercial if they try the food 2. to show that fat people don’t use their products.
It would be helpful if food advertising would stop especially on TV. it is really annoying looking at all the delicious looking food especially if one already had dinner. Often out of sight is out of mind. Perhaps it would help us all to eat less.
