Dai asked:

Or is it necessary to provide more of a meal (hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza). I plan on having the party between normal meal times, like around 2 pm.

No, it’s perfectly fine to have snack food at that time. In fact, parents might not want their kids to have pizza then, because then they wouldn’t be hungry at dinner time:) …. You might want veggie/dip and fruit platters though. My pre-school grandkids LOVE fresh veggies fruit, and it’s a great snack….

A 2:00 party should only serve snake type food. Your plan sounds fine to me.

It’s a birthday party…not a luncheon

Most people assume the party will have hot dogs and what not. I would go ahead and buy some hot dogs and buns just in case. It’s not too expensive. Better safe than sorry with little ones being hungry, ya know!!!

No, it is not bad ettiquette to serve snacky items at this time of day. Most children that age would be getting a snack around this time so you do not need to furnish them with anything more substantial. Do try to have some healthy alternatives though (i.e. carrot sticks, apple slices, graham crackers, etc.).

For my kids party we provided chips, dip, carrots crackers, cheese and some sauage. It was inbetween meals and i did not want to provide a huge meal in between along with cake. For another one of their parties i also had a veggie tray with chips n dip. A small snack is good enough for midday.

Well….Unless you want a bunch of two three year old running around like they have ants in their pants. I would provide something with a bit of carbs in it to make them more sleepy. Potato Skins perhaps? Pizza would be wise too.

Snack foods are fine, but I would also add in some healthier choices to try to balance it out.

It is not bad etiquette…whatever you plan on serving at your party is entirely up to you. You can have cake and ice cream and maybe some small finger foods if you dont wanna cook up a whole meal. Maybe a fruit plate or something. Hope this helps!

no it is not but be prepared for a lot of parents hating you after with very hiper kids lol. However, try to put out some apples, melons, strawberrie. cut them in small peices and have them served. aplles and grapes are also great.
