akgirl asked:

In my daughters school, we are responsible for bringing the class afternoon snack twice a month. No chips/chocolate/other unhealthy foods and they are peanut restricted as well. They suggest fruits, veggies, crackers, etc.

I’m curious if other moms may have some great healthy snack ideas (I love baking and make homemade bread) I was thinking banana and zucchini breads with some kind of strawberry butter or honey butter. Also some tortilla roll ups (they have a fridge for storage in the classroom) Our school does allow homemade items- it does not have to be store bought or sealed in any way.

My daughter said a lot of the kids don’t eat their snacks because they don’t like them, so I’m looking for some recipes that are tried and true with maybe picky eaters.

Thanks!

you could always do the ‘ants on a log’ idea. it does have PEANUTS!! take a celerey stick and put peanut butter on it than put raisens on top for the ‘ants’. You could also do a fruit salad with a variety of fruit for the kids.

ever tried cucumbers with lemon and salt

or the best one would be Ritz crackers with a slice of cheese and boloni shaped in a circle and put it on the ritz crackers

us a baby bottle top or somthing that will cut the chesse and bolini into circle shapes so you can put on top of the cracker

I think your ideas of the banana bread with the strawberry or honey butter would work well. However, crackers and cheese or fruit kabobs have also been known to be tried and true favourites.

Ants on a log can be used with cheese spread on celery with raisins for the ants. Not a lot of children like celery especially those picky eaters. I used to do those more for the older ages than Kindergarten.

Good luck.

I don’t have any ideas, just a warning. If the class is restricted about nuts then there is an allergy in the classroom. Be very careful about what you put in your recipes. I know it just said peanuts but chances are if they are allergic to peanuts they are allergic to all other nuts as well. Nuts are an air allergy, even the smell can cause a horrible reaction. I’ve known children who had to be taken to the hospital because peanuts were served in the cafeteria. Don’t take any chances.

Try Fish in the Sea-Celery, cream cheese and goldfish crackers standing in the cheese. You can use a few drops of food coloring to tint the cream cheese blue if you want.
