Better to have a main dish and a few snacks or just lots of snack foods?

You mean worms and eyeballs, right? LOL It depends on how many people and seating space. Some foods, like spaghetti, require a place to sit to eat the meal, and sometimes just the lap won’t do. But finger foods (chicken wings, fried cheese sticks, mini meatballs in an Italian sauce or a sw. sour sauce, or sweedish meatballs (to name a few hot foods) veggies dip and other fingers foods and appetizers are much easier to manage, but just as fulfilling.
I think finger foods would be much easier, especially if your guests are dressing up.

I would do only finger foods.
I think that appetizers and finger foods will be easiest for your guests to eat. If you really want to do spaghetti and meatballs you could prepare individual small cups with a fork inside each one.
Halloween parties are a little less formal then your average dinner get togeather… So usually it’s a buffet with snacks go as wild or as simple as the type of people you are inviting. snacks are great with maybe one good filler like pizza, or one main dish to satisfy the hunger of some along with finger foods…
Just do the snacks, play the music, do a costume contest and have lots of drinks and everyone will be happy….
